Abstract
A large part of the Brazilian population is not able to perform rehabilitative treatments with the use of implants and prostheses on implants, whether for health or economic reasons, because they are invasive and expensive procedures, so the conventional removable partial dentures are still an excellent alternative for oral rehabilitation, returning function and aesthetics. The steps of planning, making and installing a removable partial denture (PPR) require much attention and knowledge. If any step is neglected, several problems can be caused to the patient, such as injury to the supporting tissues, pain in the temporomandibular joints, fatigue in the chewing muscles and chewing deficiency. The objective of this study is to demonstrate the step-by-step planning, fabrication and installation of a PPR, increasing the chances of success of dental surgeons when performing a prosthetic rehabilitating treatment. The clinical case is of a 75-year-old male patient who presented himself to the dental clinic of the Federal University of Pará in search of better oral health. Extractive procedures, restorative and prosthetic rehabilitative treatment were performed, with the installation of upper total prosthesis and lower partial removable prosthesis. It was concluded that it is of utmost importance that the Surgeon-Dentists who work with oral rehabilitation know the stages of preparation of a PPR for success, bringing satisfaction, chewing efficiency and better quality of life to patients who do not have access to longer and more expensive rehabilitative treatments.
